I say don’t do it! Don’t make any New Year’s resolutions for 2019. Why should we if we are not going to stick to them for a year or a lifetime? Why should we if it is something we are going to dread on a day to day basis and be in conflict with in our life?
If you need to make a change about your own personal being… not because someone else wants you to do it but because YOU want to do, then do it. But from experience, I suggest you only do it if it brings you joy. Otherwise you will not stick to it. Whether it is exercising, quitting smoking, drinking less or drinking more, eating better and uh huh… getting organized, you have to want to do it for YOU or it won’t work. Period.
Once you have made this change and start feeling the effects of the great benefits of your choices, it is much easier to stick those resolutions for that year or lifetime. Since we are all creatures of habit, the things we like to do are the things that make us feel good and that comes naturally. So when you try and change some habit or routine, it will seem a little weird and awkward at first, but I can attest that you will adjust to and embrace these things that are making you feel better and you will experience satisfaction and contentment for having accomplished them.
Cleaning up or organizing spaces in your home or rooms are no different. Once you make the decision to tackle the pile that is growing up the side of the wall and you make the choice to stop buying things in multiple or bulk that you really don’t need, only you will reap the benefits of the positive feeling that comes from your determination. Only you will know the joy that feeling brings… and that’s all that matters.
