If you are considering selling your home, now is the time to do it. My realtor friends have been telling me how crazy good the market is for being the seller right now. Some houses in areas are even being sold site unseen.
Getting your house ready to have pictures taken and put on the market can be a daunting job. You must declutter and remove most of your personal memorabilia in order for people to be able to feel like they could fit in. Rooms need to be made to feel bigger, countertops need to look expansive and all things need to be clean.
Making rooms feel bigger means removing the furniture that isn’t a necessity. Pictures on the walls, nothing but a lamp on the bedside table and everything on the floor must go. All knick-knacks, pictures, and decorative pieces should be removed in order to make spaces feel more open. Countertops in the bathroom and the kitchen should be absolutely naked of everything that is normally there except maybe the tissues and paper towels. The cabinets, pantries and closets should be purged of everything that you do not use on a regular basis and can get by without for a short period of time. Cleaning the home is a very important task that should be done above all else. If you have pet hair, dirty sinks and toilets people will have a hard time seeing the possibilities of them living in filth.
Since you are going to be in the process of moving your best bet would be to pack and box all of these items for the move. Wrap the delicate pieces and label the boxes properly so you can find things when it is time to unpack.
This is also a great time to decide what you still use and what you no longer have a use for. If you are downsizing into a smaller home, now is when you should determine what you could sell or donate so that you won’t have that burden once you move.
I can help with any and all aspects of getting ready to sell your home, inside and out. Give me a call for a free consultation to see how I can assist you.
